Robert West states ‘ I work across paint and print media, and often use collage in both.

I like to work on many paintings at once (up to 30) and they evolve and grow alongside each other.  In the studio, they are all pinned up in a hotchpotch manner, and each one evolves, as bits and pieces are added in a relatively random way.

Much of my work revolves around the concept of the human need to collect, classify and name.  I often use images of things that are collected e.g. eggs, butterflies etc. and presented in boxes with labels.  This backs up the idea of this need to classify.

I often like to borrow the titles for my work from other people’s writing or music.  In some ways, the titles of the works are designed more to mislead than explain.

Being English, many of my influences come the UK artist such ab Ben Nicholson, William Scott, Patrick Heron, Victor Pasmore, Ivon Hitchens, Henry Moore and Bridget Riley.
