Annie Baird was a travelling artist. Based in Dunedin she travelled extensively throughout New Zealand and also made annual visits to the Provence in France. Her base in the Provence was in the village of Gordes almost directly beneath the Pyrenees. Here she ventured out painting the region capturing their spring and summer. In addition to her landscapes she had a great love of portrature. Many portraits were painted in her studio in Dunedin using various sitters and her professional model, Elsa. Annie's sudden death was a great loss for Dunedin and New Zealand. Her place in New Zealand art is secure and she continues to be an artist who is sort after and admired. Click image to enlarge:
