Nigel usually works in series, each work focusing as its subject,
on a particular region in Central Otago/Lakes District area.
Nigel states "I try to bring a lot of spontaneity and immediacy to my
work, I'm an energetic painter, expressive and colourful. If I
become too careful I'm in danger of creating an image that is too stiff
and contrived, which doesn't interest me...". Nigels work has
been described as capturing the raw, natural beauty and distinct
character of New Zealand's southern landscapes.
