Anne McLean is a printmaker based in Waikanae (near Wellington). She creates playful linocut images inspired by nature and animals, with the relationship humans have with their beloved pets the focus for the Rain series. She is drawn to the medium’s simplicity and the imperfections that give character and a sense of life to each print. Her pared-back compositions use humour and affection, inviting viewers to pause and connect with everyday moments of joy and companionship.
Following on from her 2021 show, Splendid Isolation, Annie Nevin’s attention remains on the interior world, the spaces in which people live and the way they make them their own. If we can know the personalities of the owners of vases and cushions indirectly by the presence of the objects, so might we know the personalities of a dog’s owner by celebrating the love and humour experienced between them. Rain has been a great opportunity to collaborate with Wellington Artist Anne McLean.
